I attended La Giara for 9 days in September (2023). I am an intermediate level (B1) student in Italian language, and overall found Giani to be a good teacher. However because he speaks very little English, too many times he had to defer to other English speaking students to give explanations and respond to my questions when he could not do so. He is fluent in German and can explain clearly and completely to German speaking students, but that did not help me. Alternatively, he would over-explain in italian giving too many examples, which ended up confusing me further, because I still didn't understand.
The other comment I wish to share is that I was looking forward to the lesson structure La Giara offers with the first half of the morning being a formal lesson including tuition and note taking exercises (approx 90 to 120 minutes); 30 minute break; then the second half of the lesson to be discussion /conversational practice. However the second half of the lesson is almost a total waste of time, (yet you are paying full fee). The morning break is always at the same coffee shop/bar as arranged by Giani, and then the second session of your tuition is held AT THE COFFEE SHOP (not back at the school) on the footpath outside. Giani does not prepare any topics and just poses questions to individuals. However, as some people only give a short response, the conversation becomes belaboured and stalls. What ends up happening is that Giana who likes to tell stories and entertain everyone, he is the one doing all the talking. The conversation with students would take maximum of 25% of this session; it's boiling sitting in the sun on the pavement, and Giani is a chain smoker which is very unpleasant if you are a non-smoker.
I was not the only one in my group (6 students) who had the same comments. I wish someone had posted honest reviews before I made my booking so I hope my review helps other in their decision-making.
I have attended 6 different Italian language schools throughout Italy, and La Giara just does not compare.
Little things that you won't find out until you are there; there is no refridgerator to put your drinks or snacks in; the bathroom is in a storeroom and the door does not close properly; although airconditioning installed, there was a reluctance to turn it on.

We recently had the very good fortune to have spent two wonderful weeks in Mola di Bari and thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks of classes at La Giara, scuola di italiano. Gianna Lepore, our teacher, was patient and caring and made certain that we understood what was being taught and why! We would highly recommend the small city of Mola di Bari as a good jumping off spot for the many “must-see” sites in Puglia (Lecce, Polignano al Mare, Bari, Ostuni oand Monopoli) and Matera in Basilicata. We would also highly recommend La Giara if your interest lies in learning the Italian language or improving your Italian language skills. Frank and Brian (Toronto, Canada)
